Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy

The Journal of Leadership in Sport and Management (JLSM) is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published scholarly content.

Digital preservation is treated as an essential component of the journal’s responsibility for maintaining the scholarly record. JLSM therefore seeks to ensure that published articles remain accessible independently of changes to the journal’s website, hosting infrastructure, or publishing platform.

PKP Preservation Network

JLSM uses Open Journal Systems (OJS), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), and has enabled integration with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).

The PKP PN provides a distributed preservation infrastructure designed specifically for journals using OJS and is based on the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) preservation model.

The journal has enabled the PKP PN plugin and accepted the network’s participation terms. Deposit and preservation status is managed through the journal’s OJS installation.

As the journal’s integration with PKP PN is currently being established, inclusion of individual issues or articles in the preservation network should not be assumed until their deposit has been successfully processed by PKP PN.

Preservation of the Version of Record

JLSM regards the formally published article as the Version of Record.

The journal seeks to preserve the published article together with associated bibliographic metadata and relevant publication files so that the scholarly record can be reconstructed and accessed over the long term.

Corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and other formal post-publication notices form part of this scholarly record and should remain linked to the publications to which they relate.

Persistent Identification

JLSM assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to published articles.

DOIs provide persistent identification of scholarly content and facilitate reliable linking even if the location of an article changes.

The journal maintains DOI metadata and seeks to ensure that DOI records continue to resolve to the appropriate published content.

Author Self-Archiving

In addition to journal-level preservation, authors are permitted and encouraged to archive the published Version of Record of their JLSM articles in institutional or disciplinary repositories and other appropriate scholarly archives.

JLSM imposes no embargo period on self-archiving of the published Version of Record, subject to the terms of the journal’s open-access license.

Distributed availability through repositories provides an additional layer of resilience and helps maintain long-term access to scholarly work.

Continuity of Access

If JLSM ceases publication or its primary website becomes unavailable, the journal will make reasonable efforts to maintain access to its published scholarly record through preservation services, repositories, DOI metadata, and other appropriate archival mechanisms.

Where content has been successfully preserved within an external preservation network, access may also be provided in accordance with that preservation service's procedures and triggering conditions.

Review of Preservation Arrangements

JLSM will periodically review its digital preservation arrangements and may adopt additional recognized preservation services as the journal develops.

Information presented on the journal website will be updated when the journal’s preservation infrastructure or participation status changes.
